Exchange on Future SATCOM Technologies at QEST

The requirements for modern satellite communications continue to grow. Higher data rates, reliable connectivity, and the integration of different orbital systems are creating new technical challenges for next-generation components and systems. Against this backdrop, QEST is developing innovative solutions for future SATCOM applications as part of the QEPA project.

During a recent project review, the results achieved in the technology phase were presented and evaluated. In addition to showcasing technical demonstrators, particular attention was given to the insights gained from the development, testing, and validation activities completed so far. The various project workstreams demonstrated that key milestones have been successfully achieved, laying the foundation for the next stages of development.

A key focus of the discussions was how innovative technologies can not only perform successfully under laboratory conditions but also meet the requirements of future industrial deployment. Topics such as scalability, manufacturability, and long-term integration into next-generation communication systems therefore played a central role throughout the exchange.

The technologies being developed within the project target Ka-band applications and are intended to contribute to the performance and efficiency of future multi-orbit communication networks. These networks are becoming increasingly important as they combine the advantages of different satellite orbits, enabling flexible and high-performance communication infrastructures.

Beyond the technical aspects, the meeting provided an opportunity to jointly assess the progress achieved so far and align on the next development steps. The transition from the technology phase to the product phase represents a significant milestone in transforming promising developments into practical applications.

With the QEPA project, QEST continues its commitment to advancing future-oriented SATCOM technologies. The goal is to develop innovative solutions that meet the growing demands of modern communication networks while establishing a solid foundation for future satellite-based communication applications.
